Times change, people change. It was the best of times, the worst of times. And so on and so on. What’s certain is that for a year we made good on our intention to put out a quarterly print journal of contemporary poetry reaching from Aotearoa New Zealand across the world; but like so much of globalism we can at some point run up against the unsustainability of our extractive efforts.
So we pack our bags and head online for a while, to look at ourselves slightly differently: a little less money pouring out through holes in our pockets, and maybe even a wider reach. Excuse my boarding house…
Some particularly exciting things: an expansive poem by Steven Toussaint that we might have struggled to tetris into a modestly sized print journal; a cadre of some real international favourites on both sides of the Atlantic; collaborative poems; it goes on.
What’s more…? For the foreseeable each issue of Minarets will be a solo editing climb, as co-founder Lauren Strain is, at this time, too on-the-road to be pinned down by even the most lyric poetry.
May we continue to put out captivating calls to prayer.
