Compound Press covets work that is done with intensity and commitment; that asks the question of why it exists, and why its chosen form is the only way it can by properly realised (answers optional).
Writers and artists should be familiar with our books and our ethos before considering an inquiry or submission.
See guidelines and requirements for our individual segments below.
Minarets journal
Our annual print journal of poetry and poetics is usually published in the second half of each year.
Guest editor Nirvana Haldar is reading for a special issue connecting the poetics and literature of Aotearoa with that of South Asia and its diaspora. We are interested in work from writers who are:
- Of South Asian heritage
- Living or have lived in South Asia
- Reflecting on writing in colonial states
- Reflecting on borders and/or citizenship
- Reflecting on cross-cultural poetics
Please note that we are only considering submissions connected to this topic; general submissions deemed unrelated to the special issue will be discarded without response.
Send up to 10 pages of text by Midnight NZT, 6 February 2025.
Minarets online
Our online blog seeks expansive and large-scale works that are impractical for our modest print journal, as well as experimental book responses, especially examining new titles from the Pacific Region.
Note: Submissions to Minarets online are on hold while we seek a new editorial custodian.
Literature
Our literary collections are expansive yet also cohesive poetic statements.
Before inquiring about submitting a full-length manuscript, authors should expect to build a relationship with the press through Minarets journal, and be able to demonstrate in convincing detail why their proposal fits into our literature catalogue.
At this time we are focused on poetic and hybrid texts. We do not currently consider fiction.
Art
We do not currently accept inquiries or submissions for art books.
